A Different Kind of Night Out…
Hi! I hope this post finds you immaculate!!!
I just got back from an event “Coffee and Chill.” For those that aren’t familiar, it’s a 100% Sober Experience where you get to Chill (literally… I mean we’re actually cold plunging), connect with others, all while enjoying some coffee amongst tons of other awesome products from their community partners that they team up with to share with attendees.
This is the first event of theirs I have attended, and it was at one of our local nightclubs here in Miami, “The Dirty Rabbit.” I felt called to write about it, specifically on the fact that there’s no alcohol involved.
Growing Up in Miami’s Club Scene
In my experience, being born and raised in Miami, I can say you start clubbing at a pretty young age. Obviously, because when you’re a kid all you want to do is act grown and do adult things. Hence, once you’re actually of age to do these things, you’re pretty much over it… or at least I am.
Not to say I won’t go to a club ever again; however, I’d rather do other things with my time and leave that for special occasions and celebrations.
Seeing the Other Side of Miami
Going to an event in Miami, let alone a club, where alcohol wasn’t the center of attention was different to say the least. Different in the best sense of the word.
I’m finally at a point in my life where I see the other side of Miami… the health and wellness side. Where people are more focused on bettering themselves vs. feeding the shadow, the parts of us that enjoy being intoxicated to the extreme and not in control.
Not to say there aren’t people that ended up going out to the club to drink afterwards, which is still OKAY! I’m simply writing on my experience attending an event where the main attraction isn’t a vodka Red Bull that will finally get you out of your shell to be able to interact with others.
Which brings me to what I want to touch base on…
Sobriety: Let’s Talk About It
I’m not 100% sober per se, but I definitely don’t get intoxicated often, at least not as much as I used to at one point in my life. At all. However, when I do, I’m not passing my limit anymore.
I used to not know when to stop and when enough is enough, and I KNOW I’m not the only one on that boat.
I just remember getting home one day after a night of drinking. I was drunk and felt so… not myself. Let’s just put it like this: I wanted to read a book and I couldn’t… how the turn tables hahaha.
I was actually so upset, and the worst part is, I had espresso martinis, so I was wired to say the least, and now I had to sit with my thoughts and think of what I had done or more so why I had passed my limit LOL.
It made me realize:
Don’t drink espresso martinis if I want to go to sleep that night.
I don’t actually enjoy being drunk.
Lessons from a Night Out
That’s because when you drink alcohol, or do any drugs in excess, for that matter, you’re lowering your consciousness. You quite literally are not yourself.
Why do you think you do or say things you wouldn’t have done otherwise had you not been drunk? It’s because you’re lowering the veil between worlds and are susceptible to other energies. Why do you think it’s called spirits?
Besides clouding my clarity, there’s a plethora of reasons I don’t choose to engage in it as often anymore, some being that it gets in the way of my health & fitness goals, daily routines, and most specifically me becoming the best version of myself.
With this knowing and acknowledgment of the effects of alcohol, once I know something, I can’t un-know it. And I don’t want to.
Intentional Drinking, Not Abstinence
Once again, I’m not telling you to never drink alcohol ever again (actually, not telling you to do anything, just some food for thought), but instead maybe be more intentional with your usage of it.
There’s nothing wrong with enjoying a drink in good company. And God doesn’t frown upon those that engage in drinking alcohol, if anything, He wants you to enjoy it specifically for moments of celebration but not to get flat-out DRUNK.
When you’re using a substance more often than not, that’s when there’s an issue. You should be able to enjoy your time without lowering your consciousness to an extreme is what I’m saying!!!
My Takeaway from Coffee & Chill
With all that being said, and circling back to Coffee and Chill… I loved it! Especially being able to enjoy myself with cold plunging, matcha (it was 6:30 p.m., I was not going to reach for the coffee, are you crazy? I want to rise at my regularly scheduled programming tomorrow), dance, and connect with others that TO MY KNOWLEDGE weren’t intoxicated and didn’t seem like it.
I actually had a guy ask if I had been drinking before the event… he clearly doesn’t know who I am and the energy I have hahaha.
Final Thoughts
Moral of the story: check out Coffee and Chill sometime! Besides Miami, they have these events in Venice, Austin, NYC, and San Diego.
I once read somewhere that alcohol is a glorified poison. This is me planting that seed for whoever is ready to hear it… maybe you aren’t. Sometimes you never are when it comes to the blunt truth.
I also invite YOU to look deeper into the “why” of your alcohol consumption… if you want. And if you do, you might just find something that leads you to better understanding yourself.
